A man committed suicide on Sunday afternoon by gunshot to the head at a Maaleh Adumim police station.

The 25-year-old resident of a nearby settlement had been called in to the station for questioning concerning suspicions of sexual harassment. When he arrived, he went in to the restroom, pulled out his licensed sidearm and shot himself. Police have opened an investigation to determine if proper procedures were observed in allowing the man to enter to the compound while armed.

Paramedics on the scene treated the man and he was brought to Jerusalem’s Shaarei Zedek hospital, where he later died of his wounds.

The city of Maaleh Adumim, located just southwest of Jerusalem, is the third largest settlement in the West Bank.
