Man guns down wife and stepson, kills self

Woman in her 40s from Nesher dies and boy in serious condition; police checking for history of violence

Eliyahu Yihiya, 49, a former Israel Prison Service employee was suspected of shooting his wife and stepson before taking his own life in the city of Nesher on Sunday. The retiree reportedly had a weapons license.

Yihiya’s wife, Bat-Sheva, in her 40s, died while being treated at Rambam Medical Center in Haifa. Her son was in serious but stable condition. The boy was 14, Channel 2 reported.

Magen David Adom paramedics arrived at the scene after authorities received reports of gunfire coming from the apartment building where the family lived. The woman and her son were found alive but in serious condition and both were transported to the hospital.

Police were reportedly investigating whether the family was under the care of social services and whether there had been any prior reports of domestic violence.
