As the rocket fire in the south continues for its fourth day, children who live in communities within range of the Gaza missiles are being hosted by the student association of Bar-Ilan University and the Gush Etzion regional council, Arutz Sheva reported.
The student association of Bar-Ilan University planned a day of fun, including games, candy and other treats. Similarly, the Gush Etzion Regional Council has invited dozens of children to a day of activities that include swimming, soccer, basketball, and a trip to a petting zoo.
Gush Etzion Regional Council head Davidi Perl told Arutz Sheva, “We are happy to host children from the south, and hope that they will experience a relaxing and entertaining day in our region.”
Over 200,000 children stayed home from school on Monday after the IDF Home Front Command decided to cancel classes in all towns between seven and 40 kilometers of the Gaza Strip. Schools less than seven kilometers away from the Gaza Strip stayed open, as they are in reinforced buildings.
We can't do this work alone.
The war with Iran has been draining for all of us in Israel. But when I heard about a high casualty incident – ballistic missile impacts in Arad and Dimona that left nearly 200 people wounded – I drank a cup of coffee, packed a bag, and headed south.
There, I spoke with Shilgit, the head of an after-school program for underprivileged youth. Standing outside her destroyed center, Shilgit said it was a miracle that no children were hurt and spoke about the community coming together in the hours since.
As a Times of Israel reporter, I’m committed to telling stories of resilience like Shilgit’s. But my colleagues and I can't do this alone.
