Babylonian Talmud translated into Arabic

The Middle East Studies Center in Amman recently completed the 20-volume work after six years

JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Middle East affairs think tank in Jordan has published a translation of the Babylonian Talmud into Arabic.

The Middle East Studies Center in Amman recently completed the 20-volume work. According to an advertisement in Arabic for the translated work, it took six years for more than 95 translators, researchers and language editors to complete what is being called the first-ever Arabic translation of the Babylonian Talmud.

“This translation opens up a wide horizon for academic studies in understanding Jewish religious thought and in recognizing its various manifestations throughout history,” according to the advertisement.

The National Library of Israel has acquired a copy of the translated Talmud, the Kikar HaShabbat newspaper reported.

The Babylonian Talmud is a written version of Judaism’s oral law.
