Bomb scare briefly grounds London-bound flight in Cairo
No explosives found on plane after anonymous informant said 2 passengers were suicide-bombers; flight departs for UK
CAIRO — Officials at Cairo’s international airport said a flight to London was delayed after security services received a tip concerning a possible bomb attack on the plane. No explosives were found on the plane, and the EgyptAir flight departed.
The officials said an anonymous caller told state security by telephone that two passengers on the flight were suicide-bombers who had planned an attack.
The flight’s passengers were searched in the boarding area, and the delay lasted roughly an hour. All luggage was taken off the plane to be checked by sniffer dogs, they added.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.
Earlier today, authorities defused three mortar rounds placed on railway tracks near the Suez Canal. On Thursday, the Interior minister escaped an assassination attempt.
