Welcome to The Times of Israel’s Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what’s happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world.

Zman Yisrael founding editor Biranit Goren joins host Jessica Steinberg for today’s Daily Briefing.

This morning, a suspected terrorist at Haifa’s bus terminal fatally stabbed a man and injured four people before being neutralized by security forces. Goren discusses what’s known about the assault, noting that it bore some resemblance to two recent terror attacks as well as those that were common during the Second Intifada, targeting public transportation and carried out by lone attackers.

Freed hostage Eli Sharabi is headed to the US to meet US President Donald Trump and push the continuation of hostage negotiations. He spoke to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Sunday night. Goren notes that Sharabi, despite recently returning from captivity in Gaza in skeletal condition to hear that his entire family had been killed on October 7, 2023, during the Hamas onslaught, is inspiring, a person of great emotional strength, focused on getting the remaining hostages home and urging the prime minister to do so in their conversation.

She also discusses the Best Documentary win at the Oscars on Sunday night, where the Palestinian-Israeli film “No Other Land” took home the Academy Award. Goren notes that the win wasn’t a surprise and takes Culture Minister Miki Zohar to task for calling it “a sad moment” for the film industry. She also says that public funding should be for Israeli films about any subject, regardless of politics.
