US bureau chief Jacob Magid joins host Jessica Steinberg for today’s episode.
Amid talk of residential neighborhoods for Gazans to be constructed in the area of the Strip still held by Israel post-ceasefire, as per Jared Kushner’s “new Gaza,” Magid notes the lack of support for the plans from Gulf countries, including the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Those countries have concerns that the vision maintains the status quo of Israeli control and leaves Hamas entrenched.

Also in question is which countries will ultimately be willing to send troops to guard borders and help deliver aid, and whether those troops will be involved solely in peacekeeping or in peace-enforcing as well. Magid says the US is not budging on the issue of the permanent decommissioning of Hamas weapons, which is a win for Israel.
Magid also reports that the US is pushing Israel to offer safe passage to some 200 Hamas operatives in Gaza tunnels inside IDF-held Gaza, who would give up their weapons and leave either to the Hamas side of the ceasefire’s Yellow Line or to exile.
Also being pushed by the US is the issue of allowing international press into Gaza now that there is a ceasefire in place. Magid notes that, two weeks ago, the High Court of Justice gave the government 30 days to update its position in light of the new circumstances. US President Donald Trump is also weighing in, he says, though the issue is more likely to be settled by the Israeli court.
