2 Arab teens barred from hometown for trying to take down Israeli flag

A pair of teenagers from Jisr az-Zarka are barred from entering the northern Arab Israeli town for 15 days after trying to remove an Israeli flag from a police station.

Police say the suspects, both 18, were arrested Saturday evening as part of “the determined struggle of the Israel Police against the phenomenon of violent crime and those that harm the symbols of the state and the foundations of democracy.”

Following their arrests, the suspects were interrogated and jailed before being conditionally released, police say, including staying away from Jisr az-Zarka for 15 days.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and that the findings will later be reviewed for a possible indictment over damaging state symbols.
