Arrivals, check-ins at Ben Gurion gradually resuming, but departure and arrival delays set to last for hours

Arrivals and check-ins are gradually resuming at Ben Gurion Airport after workers at the airport staged a surprise work stoppage, wreaking havoc at the height of the travel season. Many workers have yet to return to work.

The Israel Airports Authority is reportedly bringing in extra workers to help deal with the chaos, but delays to arrivals and departures are expected to last for hours.

According to reports, staff and management reached an agreement to resume work, with the Israel Airports Authority saying that normal traffic and check-ins would gradually resume from 3 p.m., an hour after the initial stoppage halted operations.

Some 650 flights were supposed to take off and land at the airport today, with about 107,000 passengers — the highest number for a year.
