Foreign Ministry: Israel recognizes ‘terrible suffering’ of Armenians
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleThe Foreign Ministry says it recognizes the “terrible suffering and tragedy of the Armenian people,” but stops short of recognizing the early 20th century massacres of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire as a genocide.
“In these days in particular, we and the nations of the world have the responsibility to ensure that events like this do not again occur,” it says in a statement.
The statement comes after US President Joe Biden recognized the Armenian genocide, the first American president to do so.
