Netanyahu to attend Independence Day ceremony amid outcry
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly decided to attend the annual torch-lighting ceremony marking the start of Israel’s 70th Independence Day later this month.
The decision is reported in |Hebrew-language media as a “compromise” between the prime minister and Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein, who has insisted that Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin not take part in the state ceremony, which is run by the Knesset.
Netanyahu will light a torch at the event, but it remains unclear whether he will also deliver a speech.
