US President Donald Trump and his relatives and associates could stand to gain financially from his administration’s push for a nuclear energy deal with Saudi Arabia, The New York Times reports.

The Times notes that Trump’s sons are invested in nuclear fuel companies, while his media company is looking to merge with a nuclear energy startup. Meanwhile, top cabinet officials as well as Trump donors have ties to nuclear energy companies that could benefit from such an accord.

A White House spokeswoman denies any ulterior motives for the administration’s efforts, saying “the media’s continued attempts to fabricate conflicts of interest are irresponsible and reinforce the public’s distrust in what they read.”

The Saudi deal is currently in doubt, after the president said it would not move forward without Riyadh normalizing ties with Israel.
