Two more Canadian synagogues targeted by gunfire; no injuries reported
Two synagogues in the area of Toronto, Canada, were targeted by gunfire overnight, B’nai B’rith Canada says.
B’nai B’rith identifies the synagogues as BAYT and Shaarei Shomayim.
No injuries were reported when bullets struck the two synagogues around midnight last night, police in Toronto and the neighboring York region report on social media, adding that both shootings were under investigation.

“We recognize that incidents like this are deeply concerning for members of the Jewish community. Synagogues in both Toronto and York region have been struck by gunfire this week,” Toronto police says in a post on X, adding that they have increased presence around Jewish neighborhoods in the area.
Canadian Jews have been targeted by a surge in antisemitic incidents in recent years, including shootings and firebombings of community institutions.
The most recent shooting targeted a synagogue on Tuesday, shortly after the building hosted Purim celebrations, while some individuals were still inside the building.
Conservative opposition leader Pierre Poilevre says that he was “appalled” by the Friday night shootings at the Shaarei Shomayim and Beth Avraham Yoseph Synagogues, declaring that the Jewish community “is under attack in Canada.”
Officers have boosted their presence and patrols in the greater Toronto area earlier this week as a response to rising tensions and the ongoing war in the Middle East, CBC cites police as saying.
