UN peace envoy ‘heading urgently’ to Cairo in bid to end Gaza fighting
United Nations Special Coordinator Nickolay Mladenov “is heading urgently to Cairo,” a diplomatic source tells The Times of Israel, adding that the UN “has been involved throughout the day to de-escalate” tensions between Israel and terror groups in the Gaza Strip.
In the past year, Mladenov has taken part in efforts to broker several temporary ceasefires between Israel and the terror groups.
