Man killed in Bat Yam drive-by

Gunmen on motorbike escape the scene, in what police say is a local conflict between criminals

A young man of approximately 21 years of age was gunned down early Sunday morning at close range by assailants on motorcycle in Bat Yam, who fled the scene and remain at large.

Police received dozens of calls around 1:30 a.m. reporting gunfire along a major thoroughfare of the seaside city, Maariv reported. Officers responded to the reports but could not find evidence of a shooting.

Later in the morning, police received reports from the Wolfson Medical Center in Holon that a young gunshot-wound victim had been admitted to the emergency room, and had succumbed to his wounds.

In the morning, the police identified the crime scene, at the corner of Rothschild and Ben Gurion boulevards, and said in a statement that the killing was likely the result of a conflict between local criminal elements.
