The security cabinet met for six hours on Sunday night but didn’t substantively debate the current hostage-ceasefire proposal during the lengthy meeting, according to Schneider. There was reportedly a discussion of extending Israeli sovereignty to the West Bank as a possible response to several Western countries’ expected recognition of a Palestinian state later this month.

Schneider also notes disagreements among security chiefs regarding the planned conquest of Gaza City, stressing that the final decision is to be made by the security cabinet and the military, once it has made its concerns clear, has to comply.
As US President Donald Trump reportedly considers a proposal to evacuate Palestinians from a postwar Gaza, Schneider assesses that it appears to come from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a US- and Israel-backed organization handling food distribution in the Gaza Strip. The plan envisions having a portion of the population leave and setting up enclaves inside Gaza for those who remain — a far-fetched idea, according to Schneider.
Two surveys issued in the run-up to the new school year highlight persistent socioeconomic gaps between schoolchildren, says Surkes, pointing to a lack of funds in low-income families for afterschool activities and the struggle to afford healthful food.
The storied IDF Nahal Brigade, which once primarily served agricultural communities, is returning to its roots with pre-army volunteers serving in the kibbutz communities along the Gaza and northern borders, reports Surkes.
