Abbas says Trump decision rewards Israel for ‘apartheid and ethnic cleansing’
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GooglePA President Mahmoud Abbas says US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital rewards Israeli policies that violate international law.
“These measures represent a reward to Israel for denying agreements and defying international legitimacy and encourages it to continue the policy of occupation, settlement, apartheid and ethnic cleansing,” he says in televised remarks from Ramallah.
He says Trump’s decision “is a declaration of withdrawal from the role it has played in the peace process.”
Abbas says the Palestinian leadership will meet in the coming days and consult with Arab leaders to formulate a response.
