COPENHAGEN, Denmark — US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says the US has requested “details” and a “justification” from Israel for an airstrike on a high-rise building in Gaza housing international media outlets.

Blinken adds that he hasn’t personally seen any information shared by Israeli authorities and therefore doesn’t want to comment on the legitimacy of the strike.

“Israel has a special responsibility to protect civilians in the course of its self-defense, and that most certainly includes journalists,” Blinken tells a Copenhagen press conference.

Israel alleges the building was used by the military intelligence wing of Hamas, the terror group that rules the Gaza Strip.

Times of Israel staff contributed to this report.
