Hospital treating 10 ex-hostages says they’re ‘stable’ but face long recovery

The 10 released hostages being treated at Sheba Medical Center are all in stable condition, says Prof. Itai Pessach, the associate director-general of the hospital.

The ex-hostages — Gali and Ziv Berman, Bar Kuperstein, and Yosef Chaim Ohana, Elkana Buhbut, David and Ariel Cunio, Segev Kalfon, Maxim Herkin and Rom Broslavsky — have all undergone a series of medical tests, Pessach says.

“While I cannot share more specific details, we remember that every one of them has endured untold adversity and horrors, and therefore the road for recovery is going to be a very long one.”

He says that “as a physician and as a human being, I can’t emphasize enough the impact of being surrounded by their loved ones on the general well-being and their ability to heal.”

The hostages “will probably need weeks, months and maybe years to heal,” Pessach says, “but they’ll finally be taking the first steps to return to life.”
