Jerusalem church leaders warn US President Donald Trump that changing the status of Jerusalem will case “irreparable harm” to the holy city and its residents.
In a letter signed by 12 Orthodox patriarchs as well as the city’s Lutheran and Episcopalian bishops, local church leaders tell the US president that declaring Jerusalem the capital of Israel “will yield increased hatred, conflict, violence and suffering.”
“Any sudden changes would cause irreparable harm,” the letter says. “We are confident that, with strong support from our friends, Israelis and Palestinians can work towards negotiating a sustainable and just peace, benefiting all who long for the Holy City of Jerusalem to fulfill its destiny.
“We ask from you Mr. President to help us all walk towards more love and a definitive peace, which cannot be reached without Jerusalem being for all,” the patriarchs say.
