State Department asks diplomats to defer travel to Israel, West Bank

The US State Department is urging all diplomatic staff to defer non-essential travel to Israel, Jerusalem and the West Bank until December 20, according to Reuters.

The cable comes just ahead of a highly anticipated announcement by US President Donald Trump declaring Jerusalem the capital of Israel.

Mideast leaders say Trump’s expected decision could lead to violent protests and complicate Mideast peace efforts.
