US never confirmed Iran put mines in Hormuz, contradicting Trump’s claims — report

Washington has not confirmed that Iran placed mines in the Strait of Hormuz, despite US President Donald Trump’s claim yesterday that Iran had committed to remove what few mines the US has failed to clear, NBC reports, citing two US officials and a person familiar with the matter.
According to the report, US and allied countries’ intelligence suggested early in the war that Iran was mining the strait, but underwater sweeps by the US failed to turn up anything that could be definitively identified as a mine.
“If anything, the threat has been far less robust than we had feared,” the person familiar with the matter is quoted as saying.
