Jerusalem baby suffocates on plastic bag
Police say caretaker forgot the bag in the infant’s bed
A seven-month-old baby died on Tuesday afternoon in Jerusalem, apparently after suffocating on a plastic bag with which he had played.
Paramedics who arrived on the scene at the home of the baby’s caretaker in the capital’s Kiryat Moshe neighborhood found the baby unconscious.
One medic told reporters that his team attempted to resuscitate the infant for a long time, “but unfortunately we had to pronounce him dead.”
An initial police investigation found that, after the caretaker fed the baby, she accidentally left the plastic bag in his bed. The woman was released after preliminary questioning.
