Israeli rhythmic gymnast Daria Atamanov scoops two golds, a silver at World Games
16-year-old takes first place in ribbon, second in batons a day after winning ball routine; kickboxer Shir Cohen battles her way into finals
Israeli rhythmic gymnast Daria Atamanov finished with two gold medals and a silver at the World Games in Birmingham, Alabama.
Atamanov, 16 took first place for her ribbon routine on Wednesday, and came second in the batons contest.
Her success came the day after she took the gold medal for her ball routine. In the remaining of the four disciplines in the event, the hoops, she came sixth.
As result, Israel finished top of the table in the rhythmic gymnastics with three medals, followed by Italy with one gold and two silver, and Bulgaria with a gold and silver.
Last month Atamanov won a gold medal at the 2022 European Championships, held in Tel Aviv. In the individual apparatus contests, the Israeli team snagged a further four silver medals and a bronze.
Atamanov has won several other medals in recent years, and is seen as a potential successor to Linoy Ashram, who recently retired after bringing home a gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics last year.
Also heading for a medal at the World Games in Birmingham was Israeli kickboxing Shir Cohen, who fought her way to the final of the under-52-kilo category on Wednesday.

Cohen overcame Klara Strnadova of the Czech Republic and will face Poland’s Iwona Nieroda-Zdziebko in the final on Thursday.
