A Palestinian man who worked as a cleaner at a Tel Aviv realtor’s office is suspected of stealing NIS 2.5 million ($658,000) from his employer.
On May 20, 2015, police received a complaint about the missing money, which was partly in US dollars and partly in shekels. The money had been left in a drawer in the employer’s office.
The suspect was arrested after security camera footage captured him leaving the scene with large bags and entering a waiting car.
In the video, the suspect can be seen crossing the street and entering the vehicle.
The worker is reportedly a Palestinian resident who entered Israel illegally and did not have permits to work or remain in the country.
The suspect, who is 28 years old, is a resident of a village near Ramallah. He was arrested in the West Bank at the beginning of January in a joint operation with the special unit of the Palestinian Authority.
Charges are expected to be brought against him Monday.
We can't do this work alone.
The war with Iran has been draining for all of us in Israel. But when I heard about a high casualty incident – ballistic missile impacts in Arad and Dimona that left nearly 200 people wounded – I drank a cup of coffee, packed a bag, and headed south.
There, I spoke with Shilgit, the head of an after-school program for underprivileged youth. Standing outside her destroyed center, Shilgit said it was a miracle that no children were hurt and spoke about the community coming together in the hours since.
As a Times of Israel reporter, I’m committed to telling stories of resilience like Shilgit’s. But my colleagues and I can't do this alone.
