Bullets apparently fired from the Gaza Strip have struck a number of homes in the southern Israeli city of Sderot on Wednesday, causing damage but no injuries, according to Hebrew-language media.
In one case, a bullet shattered a window. In others, the rounds smashed into external walls, according to pictures of the houses posted on social media.
Reports indicated the bullets were from machine gun fire.
Police were called to the scenes, sealing off the areas around the homes that were hit as forensic investigators were called in.
The army says it is investigating the reports in order to determine the origins of the gunfire.
Earlier, the army said gunmen in Gaza opened fire toward Israel. The IDF responded by shelling a Hamas post.
