Join the ToI Community for a sizzling latke master class with Chef Harry

In a ToI Community exclusive live cooking class, Harry will teach you how to make potato pancakes that even your bubbe would be jealous of

Please join us Wednesday, December 9, for a special Hanukkah installment of our Israel Unlocked virtual tour series, exclusive to the ToI Community.

Live from his Israeli kitchen, chef and culinary guide Harry Rubenstein gives a Virtual Master Class on how to fry up the perfect latke, revealing his secret tips and tricks to make this Hanukkah favorite crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle.

Rubenstein is a pastry chef, culinary guide, storyteller, outdoor market obsessive and a self-proclaimed expert on Jewish baked goods — sweet and savory. He’s been shopping and eating at Israel’s markets for over 20 years, and is happy to share his experience in this hands-on virtual seminar that will turn participants into the envy of latke-making bubbes far and wide.

To make your own latkes along with Rubenstein, you’ll need a frying pan, box grater or food processor, cheesecloth or colander, and the following ingredients:

Harry’s AMAZING latkes

5-6 Russet potatoes
Neutral oil (canola, grapeseed – NOT olive)
2 onions
3-4 large eggs
1/4 cup breadcrumbs, matzah meal, or flour (can be gluten free)
2 tsp baking powder
Salt, pepper
Topping of your choice (applesauce, sour cream, etc.)
