State prosecutors on Monday filed charges against nine men for importing plastic figures filled with drugs.
Tel Aviv District Court heard that the men, aged between 23 and 47, smuggled illegal drugs into the country, primarily methamphetamine, stuffed inside plastic figurines from films “Star Wars” and “Despicable Me.”
In 2016 the group ordered several packages from a variety of locations in the US. Each order contained two kilograms of the drugs concealed inside children’s toy figures.
In total some 16 kilograms (35 pounds) of drugs were imported.
Several of the men worked for the UPS courier service enabling them to change shipping addresses, redirect packages, and ensure delivery of the drugs.
