Iraq PM instructs foreign ministry to summon US envoy over deadly strike on pro-Iran militias’ base
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleIraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has instructed the foreign ministry to summon the US chargé d’affaires in Baghdad over attacks that targeted Iraqi “military units,” the prime minister’s office says.
Iraq’s defense ministry and security sources said a strike earlier today killed seven soldiers and wounded 13 at a site belonging to the Popular Mobilization Force, a coalition of pro-Iran militias that is part of the Iraqi military.
The PMF was formed of Shiite pro-Iran militias over a decade ago as Iraq waged war against the Islamic State terror group. Among PMF’s members is Kataeb Hezbollah, a powerful US-designated terror group.
