A new strike in western Iraq targeted the Popular Mobilization Force (PMF), a coalition of pro-Iranian militias that is part of the Iraqi military, a security official says.

“Two missiles were fired from a fighter jet” at a base in Anbar province, the official says.

The same base was the target of a similar attack that killed 15 Iraqi fighters on Tuesday.

The Tuesday attack was the deadliest strike in Iraq since the US and Israel launched war on Iran and its proxies on February 28. It prompted the Iraqi government to grant the the PMF a “right to respond” to any attack against it.

The PMF was formed of Shiite pro-Iran militias over a decade ago as Iraq waged war against the Islamic State terror group. Among PMF’s members is Kataeb Hezbollah, a powerful US-designated terror group.
