Poll: 61% of Americans disapprove of Iran war, 25% think it’s going well

Over 60 percent of Americans disapprove of US President Donald Trump’s handling of the Iran war, with a similar number believing that Washington made the wrong decision by using military force against Tehran, according to a new Pew Research Center poll.

Sixty-one percent of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the conflict, while 37% approve. Fifty-nine percent say the US made the wrong decision in using military force against Iran, while 38% say the US made the right decision, the poll shows.

Forty-five percent of respondents say the war is not going well, compared to 25% who say it is going extremely well or very well and 28% who say it’s going somewhat well.

Eighty-eight percent of Democrats say Trump made the wrong decision by striking Iran, while 71% of Republicans say Trump made the right decision.

Forty percent of poll respondents believe the war will make the US less safe, while 22% think it will make the US safer, 20% anticipate no change and 18% are unsure.

Pew polled 3,524 adults in the US between March 16 and March 22 and says the survey has a margin of error of 1.8 percentage points.
