Prime Minister Netanyahu gives a televised statement on this week’s fighting between Israel and the Gaza-ruling Hamas terror group.
“There is no more just or moral operation,” he says, noting the hostilities began when Hamas fired rockets at Jerusalem on Monday evening.
Speaking in Hebrew, Netanyahu thanks US President Joe Biden and other world leaders for backing Israel. He says they know Israeli actions are “just and necessary.”
Unlike Hamas, who Netanyahu notes fires rockets at Israeli population centers, Netanyahu says Israel is doing everything it can to avoid and minimize civilian casualties in Gaza.
He warns terror leaders: “You can’t hide, not above land or below it. No one is immune.”
Referring to Israel’s destruction of high-rise buildings, such as the one today that housed offices of foreign media groups, Netanyahu says these buildings are being used by Hamas and other terror organizations.
Turning to the ethnic violence in Israel, Netanyahu says Israel won’t let Arab rioters attack Jews or Jewish property. While stressing this is not all Arab Israelis, he calls those engaged in the violence a “significant group.”
He also says Israel will deal “severely” with any violent assaults on Arabs by Jews, such as the brutal beating in Bat Yam this week.
“Whoever incites will pay a very heavy price,” he says. “Whoever acts as a terrorist will be punished as a terrorist.”
Returning to the fighting in Gaza, he also says there a “few days” of fighting ahead.
