Channel 12 news reports that several initiatives have been raised to halt the fighting in Gaza, but Israel is making clear it isn’t seeking a ceasefire at this stage.
Israel’s political leadership favors several more days of fighting to complete the missions that the IDF is interested in carrying out, according to the report.
“This is not the time for a ceasefire. We are continuing,” an unnamed senior Israeli source is quoted as saying.
At the same time, the source says, plainly the coming week will see ceasefire discussions.
Israel believes it still has diplomatic room to maneuver, but knows this room is not unlimited, the report adds.
The network also reports US President Joe Biden Biden initiated the call with Prime Minister Netanyahu today and that the United States is very worried by the IDF strikes in Gaza, and especially the destruction of the tower where some foreign media outlets had their offices.
The Prime Minister’s Office says Netanyahu assured Biden that Israel is doing its utmost to prevent civilian casualties, as underlined by the warnings it issues before hitting targets where citizens are at risk.
