‘Cowell was unaware of lover’s pregnancy’

Celebrity music mogul Simon Cowell broke up with married Jewish socialite Lauren Silverman before he knew she was carrying his child.

The Daily Mail reported that Cowell told a friend, “It’s over with Lauren — it has been since before anyone knew she was pregnant. I want matters resolved but in a sensitive way. I have to respect a lot of people’s feelings. There’s a lot of people’s feelings here.”

Cowell, 53, a music executive who became a household name in the US and UK as a blunt talent judge on “American Idol” and “X Factor,” is rumored to have been carrying on a yearlong romance with the 36-year-old Silverman. A picture came out on Friday of the two kissing last August on a boat chartered by Silverman’s husband.

Now, it turns out she was pregnant with his child.

Silverman is married to Cowell’s close friend, real estate tycoon Andrew Silverman. The Silvermans, who have a 7-year-old son, Adam, are going through a divorce. Andrew is filing for sole custody of their child, claiming that his wife used to disappear for long periods of time to hang out with celebrities, according to TMZ.

British media are reporting that Cowell is confused by the news, which came as a shock six weeks after he broke up with Silverman.

Carole Saland, Silverman’s mother, called for Cowell to “do the right thing” and marry her daughter.

The Daily Star Sunday newspaper reported that Cowell promised Silverman that he would give £3 million ($4.6m.) a year in child support until the child’s 21st birthday.
