Education Ministry, teachers union reach deal to avoid strike
The Education Ministry and the teachers’ union reach a deal to resolve their disagreements over COVID testing and quarantine for children, in order to avert a strike.
According to the deal, testing kits will be distributed to all school staff, all students in special education will be tested, with a handful of exceptions, and parental reports on children’s tests will be able to be accessed via a portal monitored by the Education Ministry and reported to the teachers union.
Last week, a court injunction blocked a planned teacher’s strike in protest of new rules that ended quarantine for students exposed to a positive case in school.
