Toddler loses her hand in a meat grinder

Neighbor who was watching child buries the severed hand in the yard; doctors can’t reattach it

A two-and-a-half year old girl got her hand stuck in a meat grinder on Friday, while she was at a neighbor’s home in Moshav Yodfat in the western Galilee region.

According to police, the neighbor had placed the toddler on a kitchen counter while the meat grinder was working, and the girl reached inside the machine. Her hand was severed in the accident.

Police found the child’s hand buried in the yard, and they arrested the neighbor on suspicion of negligence and obstruction of justice.

The child was rushed via helicopter to Rambam Hospital in Haifa, where doctors determined they could not save her hand.

The neighbor was released on NIS 5,000 bail.
