The Home Front Command announced on Saturday night that it would conduct a drill from Sunday in which SMS alerts will be sent to hundreds of thousands of Israelis.
The alerts will contain a message in one of four languages (Hebrew, Arabic, English and Russian) explaining the purpose of the drill – to improve the Home Front Command’s ability to alert citizens in time if they are in danger.
The drill is set to begin at 8 o’clock on Sunday morning in Ramle and continue until 6pm. Throughout the week, the drill will expand in scope to include other cities in Israel, such as Haifa, Acre, Safed, Nahariya, Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Netanya, Ashdod, Kiryat Gat, Sderot and Netivot.
On Wednesday, the drill will be held in the Kiryat Shmona, Metula, Tiberias, Rehovot, Sde Boker, Dimona and other cities around the country, shifting on Thursday to Afula, Zichron Yaakov, Jerusalem, Modi’in, Beit Shemesh, Ofakim, Arad and other major cities in the vicinity.
The drill is expected to reach its peak between 10am and 12am each day.
