Palestinian TV presents synagogue terrorists as victims

PA broadcast describes shooters as 'martyrs' killed in 'attacks Israel carried out against our people'

The official Palestinian television channel has described two terrorists who killed five people in an attack on a Jerusalem synagogue last week as victims of Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

In a broadcast on November 18, the same day that Rabbi Moshe Twersky, Aryeh Kupinsky, Rabbi Kalman Levine, Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Goldberg, and traffic policeman Zidan Saif were killed in Har Nof, PA TV described the spate of recent terror attacks in Jerusalem as incidents where Israel took the lives of innocent Palestinians.

“The latest reaction to [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s policy and means was the death of 2 Palestinians as martyrs from occupation police fire in West Jerusalem,” declared a PA TV newsreader, according to an English translation of the broadcast supplied by Palestinian Media Watch, an Israeli-based watchdog.

The two men, Uday and Ghassan Abu Jamal, cousins from East Jerusalem’s Jabel Mukaber neighborhood, entered the Bnei Torah synagogue armed with a gun, axes and meat cleavers and began killing the Jewish worshipers at prayer.

The slaughter went on for several minutes before police reached the scene. Saif, a traffic policeman, was the first to arrive and was critically wounded as he fired on the two terrorists in an effort to intervene. Both terrorists were later shot by police in a gunfight on the steps of the synagogue. Saif died a few hours later.

PA TV listed the names of Palestinians killed after carrying out recent attacks in Jerusalem but described them as “martyrs” who caused the deaths of Israelis by accident.

“Here are the most prominent attacks Israel carried out against our people in occupied Jerusalem in October [2014],” announced the newsreader. “The death of Abd Al-Rahman al-Shaludi as a martyr. He was shot by the occupation after a car accident.

“The death of Mutaz Hijazi as a martyr and the wounding of other [Palestinians] by shots fired by the occupation police in Silwan,” continued the broadcaster. “And in November [2014], the death of Ibrahim al-Akari as a martyr in Sheikh Jarrah after a run-over incident.”

On October 22 Shaludi, 22, rammed his car into a group of Jewish pedestrians at a light rail station in central Jerusalem, killing three-month-old Chaya Zissel Braun and 22-year-old Karen Mosquera. He was shot on the scene by police and soon died of his wounds.

On November 5, Akari drove his car into a different light rail stop, killing two people and injuring another 13. He was shot and killed by police during the attack.

Hijazi, 32, from Abu Tor, tried to gun down Temple Mount activist Yehudah Glick on October 29, critically wounding him. Hijazi was shot dead the following morning during a police raid.

Netanyahu, backed by other senior ministers, has repeatedly blamed the Palestinian Authority leadership for inciting Palestinians to commit acts of terror.
