Israel’s wheelchair tennis team took home the silver medal at the BNP Paribas World Team Cup in the Netherlands on Saturday.
The team was defeated in the culminating doubles match against Austrialia’s Heath Davidson and Dylan Alcott 3-6, 1-6.
Israel began the round’s single’s match with a 6-1, 6-1 Noam Gershony victory over Australia’s Davidson.
However, Australia evened the series with Alcott’s 6-0, 6-0 straight set wins over Patrick Ben Uriel.
The deciding doubles match pitted Gershony and Shraga Weinberg against Davidson and Alcott, with the latter pair pulling off the victory.
On its way to second place, the Israelis beat out teams from Japan, South Korea, and the United States.
Culture and Sport Minister Miri Regev congratulated the Israeli athletes in a statement telling them “you were close to achieving the title of world champions and I am confident that you will win the championship next year.”
