Bank Leumi, one of Israel’s two largest lenders, saw its quarterly profit jump to a record NIS 2.8 billion ($940 million) in the April to June period, benefiting from robust growth in credit and loans to households and businesses.

Net income in the second quarter of 2026 rose 8.5 percent to NIS 2.8 billion from NIS 2.6 billion during the same period last year. Excluding the impact of the special surtax imposed on banks, net income in the second quarter would have amounted to NIS 3.1 billion, Leumi says.

During the quarter, Leumi says it continued to focus on credit growth in the corporate, commercial and mortgage segments.

Net credit to the public as of June 30, 2026, amounted to NIS 566.5 billion, up 15.8% from the NIS 489.2 billion recorded a year ago. Corporate credit totaled NIS 188.5 billion at the end of June, up 22.1% from NIS 154.5 billion versus the same period a year ago.

Housing loans or mortgages rose 7.7% to NIS 163.1 billion at the end of June, from NIS 151.5 billion year-on-year.

Meanwhile, net interest income increased 0.7% to NIS 4.57 billion in the reported quarter from NIS 4.54 billion during the same period in 2025. Non-interest income, which includes commissions and fee income, jumped 39.4% to NIS 2 billion, compared with NIS 1.45 billion a year earlier.
