NEW DELHI — Foreign Minister Eli Cohen meets Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi to discuss an emerging rail and port network from India to Israel via Saudi Arabia. They also discuss the attempts to bring about a normalization agreement between Riyadh and Jerusalem.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Modi expresses particular interest in bringing Israeli companies and technology to India as part of Modi’s “Make in India” initiative. Modi also asks Cohen to continue to increase the number of Indian foreign workers in Israel. There are currently 17,000 Indian foreign workers and Cohen signed a deal earlier today bringing another 42,000 to Israel in construction and nursing care. Modi wants to see Indian high-tech workers in Israel as well.

Cohen presents Modi with an update on the operation in Gaza against Palestinian Islamic jihad. He also tells Modi that Israel will support India’s bid for the United Nations Security Council in 2028.
