Iran slams UK decision to ban IRGC as ‘irresponsible’

Iran’s foreign ministry condemns Britain’s decision to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a security threat, calling the move “unjustified” and “irresponsible.”

The ministry says the IRGC is an official part of Iran’s armed forces and accuses Britain of violating international law by targeting a state institution.

Britain yesterday banned support for the IRGC and a linked group under new powers aimed at preventing foreign states from using proxies for activities such as surveillance and sabotage.

The UK government said a series of arson and vandalism attacks on Jewish sites in Britain were the work of a proxy group backed by Iran.
