Iranian sources tell NYT that Egypt drone strike was designed to showcase Tehran’s capabilities

Two unnamed Iranian sources are quoted by The New York Times as heavily implying that Tehran was behind yesterday’s drone attack on a US-owned gas tanker in Egypt, the first targeting of that country in the current war.

The attack was “designed to show that global shipping and energy supplies could be more deeply disrupted if Iran chose to escalate,” the report says the Iranians said.

However, the sources reportedly did not explicitly say if Iran or its terror proxies launched the attack.
