Senate panel advances nomination of Biden’s pick for envoy to Israel, Jack Lew

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has approved Jack Lew’s nomination to serve as US ambassador to Israel.
Twelve members vote for Lew while nine vote against him. Rand Paul was the lone Republican to vote with Democrats to advance Lew’s nomination.
The nomination is expected to be brought to the Senate for a full-body vote in the coming days.
