State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman says during a tour of the Gaza border region that “the time will come” to thoroughly examine the numerous failures that enabled Hamas to invade Israel and commit the atrocities witnessed on Saturday.

The comptroller, tasked with reviewing the functioning of the government and state apparatus, adds that at present his office will focus on monitoring how well the needs of the civilian population are being met.

“The moment will come when we will examine everything that happened, the military and political aspect of things and the civilian aspect,” says Englman. “The time for examining the failures will come and it will be thoroughly comprehensive.”

Englman also notes that his office has been working on a report documenting preparedness on Israel’s northern borders, and says that it found “substantive deficiencies” that the government and IDF must address. That document has been sent to the prime minister and the defense minister for their responses, he adds.
