Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan praises Donald Trump’s “efforts and leadership” to end the war in Gaza in a post on X.
“I commend US President Donald Trump’s efforts and leadership aimed at halting the bloodshed in Gaza and achieving a ceasefire,” writes Erdogan, who met Trump at the White House for the first time in six years last week.
Turkey will continue to contribute to the process “with a view to establishing a just and lasting peace acceptable to all parties,” he adds.
Turkey, which has supported Hamas in the past, has been one of the most vocal critics of Israel’s two-year assault on Gaza, which it calls a “genocide.” It has halted all trade with Israel and urged international action against Netanyahu and his government.
A Turkish Foreign Ministry source said late on Monday that Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had discussed Trump’s proposal with counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Jordan in a phone call.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
