Aussie singer Sia to play Tel Aviv in May

Sia, the Australian pop singer known for her hits “Chandelier” and “Elastic Heart,” will reportedly appear in Tel Aviv’s Yarkon Park at the end of May.

Concert promoter Ilan Elkayam of 3A Productions — LIVE in Israel told Israeli news website Ynet on Tuesday that Sia has signed a contract, but that no further information is available.

The pop star, whose full name is Sia Kate Isobelle Furler, has plenty of fans in Israel, plus Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, an unwitting imitator of the pop singer.

Netanyahu was placed in 2014 in a video clip in which he sings along to Sia’s “Chandelier,” the song that describes her desire to enjoy life by wanting to drink a lot and “swing from the chandelier.”

“Chandelier” was one of the singer’s first major hits, released in 2014 along with another single, “Elastic Heart” from her album “1000 Forms of Fear.”

It has taken some years for the singer/songwriter, who released her debut album in 1997 and then sang lead vocals for English band Zero 7, to emerge as a pop star.

While she signed with Sony sub-label Dance Pool in 2000 and relocated to New York in 2005, it wasn’t until 2009, when she wrote lyrics for American singer Christina Aguilera’s “Bionic” album, that she began to gather her own audience.

It wasn’t for lack of genetic talent; Furler’s father, Phil Colson, is a musician and she is the niece of Colin Hay, a member of popular 1980s band Men at Work.

Furler’s next break came in 2011 when she wrote the song “Titanium” for Alicia Keys, and which was later released as a single by French DJ and record producer David Guetta, later hitting the top five of the charts in the US, Australia and Europe. The next few years brought her co-songwriting credits for Beyoncé, Flo Rida and Rihanna.

According to Sia’s official website, she is touring with the Coachella festival in the US in April and is scheduled to perform at the end of May in Boston, followed by August concerts in Moscow, Sweden and Finland.
