Attempt to oust Odeh is ‘dangerous’ move toward full-scale coup d’état, warns Yair Golan

Democrats chair Yair Golan urges opposition lawmakers to vote against a motion to expel Hadash-Ta’al chair Ayman Odeh from the Knesset this afternoon, urging them to present a “united and strong front.”

“The vote to oust Odeh is not merely a technical vote,” Golan says in remarks to the press. “This is a dangerous and essential move in a coup d’état.”

He calls on his “friends in the entire democratic camp” and Yesh Atid in particular, whose lawmakers have been given free rein to vote as they please, to oppose the motion rather than vote with “the government of destruction and hatred.”

“Stand with us in the struggle for the fate of the country, not with Netanyahu and Yariv Levin, and certainly not Ben Gvir and Smotrich. Do not vote with these people who want to destroy our home, which I know is dear to you as well,” he adds.

He also criticizes the High Court of Justice for its decision yesterday to allow for today’s hearing to dismiss Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara.

“This government is rushing toward a full-scale coup d’état,” he says, adding that he was mystified by the court’s decision to approve the government’s request, “as if it isn’t a violent and dangerous government for democratic Israel.”

He says that the High Court must stand as “an essential gatekeeper of Israeli democracy.”

“We are one step away from declaring that ‘the fortress has fallen.’ Wake up.”
