Ben Gvir suggests High Court bears responsibility for deadly Jerusalem shooting

At the scene of a deadly terror shooting in Jerusalem, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir inveighs against the High Court of Justice and implies it bears responsibility for the attack.

“Just yesterday, the High Court of Justice handed down a shocking, terrible decision that eases the conditions for the Nukhba terrorists,” he says, referring to yesterday’s court decision that determined Israel is not properly feeding Palestinian security prisoners.

“It is simply incomprehensible how the court hands down rulings like this,” he says. “They want to ease their [Palestinian prisoners’] conditions, and terror raises its head.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a similar statement in his remarks to reporters at the scene of the shooting, calling on the judicial system “to join the fight against terror,” per Channel 12 news.

Ben Gvir also calls on Israelis to arm themselves, lauding two Haredi men who shot and killed the pair of terrorists who opened fire on civilians earlier this morning. One of the men was an off-duty soldier in the Hasmonean Brigade, a new unit for ultra-Orthodox troops.

“I am proud of both Haredi men who, in the framework of our gun permit reforms, shot at the terrorists and ended the incident,” he says.

He tells reporters that Israel needs “to continue to crush and occupy, to expel, to encourage voluntary migration, to do what is needed,” in the Gaza Strip.

The minister urges Interior Minister Yariv Levin to deport families of terrorists, boasting that he himself signed 35 such orders under a law passed last year allowing the deportations, which still need final approval from the minister.
