Dozens protest outside home of Haredi lawmaker after another’s car is smashed

Dozens of Haredi demonstrators protest outside the home of United Torah Judaism MK Ya’akov Asher, shortly after the windshield of a car belonging to another ultra-Orthodox lawmaker was smashed.

The protest outside Asher’s home in Bnei Brak appears to be disorganized, with participants flanked by police vehicles.

It takes place after ultra-Orthodox extremists smashed the front window of Shas MK Yoav Ben-Tzur’s vehicle as he left a weekly lesson in Jerusalem, according to footage. That incident drew outcry across the political spectrum.

The rioters appear to have targeted both lawmakers over their participation in discussions over the coalition’s bill regulating Haredi conscription. Haredi leaders have staunchly opposed any measures to draft masses of yeshiva students.
